Something must have hit it at some point, obviously. The slight issue is a small dent in the bearing edge of the bass drum, reso side. Except for one very minor flaw, the shells are immaculate, as are the bearing edges (C&C cuts those by hand, by the way). Bass drum has a Powerstroke 3 batter and what looks like a coated ambassador reso.įrom what I have read and have seen online, I expected the drums to be first class, from a construction perspective, but they exceeded those expectations. Vintage coated ambassadors on top of the toms and clear ambassadors on the bottom. I left the factory shipped heads on, for now, as they are quality Remo USA heads. They have a vintage type of sound of their own and, again, I think they will go well with these drums. 20” mini bell ride, 16” crash and 15” New Beat hats. I also found my old bag of cymbals – all Zildjian, from the 60’s & 70’s. I think they will look quite at home with this kit. They’re not flat-based, just single braced, which you don’t see a lot these days. By today’s standards these stands look vintage. I had a Pearl kit back then and the stands are about all that is left.

But I went through an old parts case I have had for years and I found some old Pearl stands (circa 1976). I had intended to just swap cymbal and snare stands back & forth with my other kit, as well as the cymbals.

Right now, I am pairing my Black Beauty snare with this kit as it seems to be a match made in heaven. I did not order the optional snare, as I had bought two Ludwig snares last year. The kit I purchased is the BeBop: 20x14 bass, 12x8 tom, 14x14 floor tom. Most outsource the construction of their shells to 3rd party shell makers, such as Keller). (Just as an aside – C&C make their own shells which is somewhat of a rarity for drum makers these days. For a gigging drummer, these would be a breeze to cart around. The shells are incredibly light, especially the bass drum, with its wood hoops. The thing about luan is that it yields a really warm, fat sound – which is what I happen to like. Luan is a type of mahogany and it is quite soft, which is unusual compared to the norm, like maple & birch which are hard. So, I thought I would give you a little review and, of course, a few pics.įor those of you who may not know, the Players Date I kit has luan shells. Well, my C&C Players Date kit arrived on Friday and I have had a chance to set them up and play around with them for a bit.
